A gem
This CD is like it´s homecountry - Iceland. Tender and sweet as Icelandic intact nature, and at the same time crushing like an Icelandic glacier. The genre itself - post rock - has got very few to do with rock. Me personally I prefer Wikipedia´s categorisation as "dream pop". That is exactly it, the two words says it all - athmospheric, dreamy, shrouded in mist, and from this mist once in a while a crushing glacier rushes out, fine and gentle musical landscape becomes pounding rock madness for a few dozens of seconds, but not loosing it´s originality, dreamyness or smoothness. Then, this glacial wall of sound melts and listener is once again carried through his listening experience by lead singer´s Jónsi Birgisson's melting and silky falsetto voice. The lyrics itself are in icelandic, or, in "hopelandic". Hopelandic is a term used to describe the unintelligible lyrics sung by Jonsi. It has got no meaning, fixed word order, syntax, grammar, distinct words, no nothing, but it´s meaning is to let the listener hear what he thinks the song means, let him freely without restraint "understand" the song. But on the other hand, the effect would be the same if sung in icelandic, because for majority of people icelandic is as ethereal as hopelandic :). To put it in a single phrase, this album is an abstract walk to the land of fire and ice on a thin line between madness and geniality. But beware not to step off the pathway, you may freeze solid or burn to ashes.

Sigur Ros - Takk (CD 2005)
Sigur Ros are a band that seem to get better and better with each album.Takk kicks off with a short into song then the good stuff begins.Glosoli slowly builds up to a great climax and is one of my personal favourite Sigur Ros songs.Hoppipolla is well known for it being the theme tune to BBC's Planet Earth series.Saeglopur is the next single release and is an absolute cracker.Gong is also another one that builds up nicely.This is a damn fine album that should be in any record collector's collection.Sigur Ros are a band that seem to get better and better with each album.Takk kicks off with a short into song then the good stuff begins.Glosoli slowly builds up to a great climax and is one of my personal favourite Sigur Ros songs.Hoppipolla is well known for it being the theme tune to BBC's Planet Earth series.Saeglopur is the next single release and is an absolute cracker.Gong is also another one that builds up nicely.This is a damn fine album that should be in any record collector's collection.

Sigur Ros - Takk
This was the first Sigur Ros album I have bought - absolutely superb. I had heard the single (3rd on the album) that was used (I think) in the BBC 'Earth' series after it had been played on Radio 1 since last year. The rest of the album does not disappoint and I would say there is about 5 really outstanding tracks here. Very atmospheric and redolent of the Icelandic weather and landscape that the group are familiar with - the arrangements and structure of the songs are muscular and powerful. e.g. Track 6 starts off slow, mimicing the first drops of rain and then builds to a thungerstorm. Fantastic stuff. Ethereal and other worldly, almost spiritual at times as it is very uplifting. Makes you want to see them live to see how they co-ordinate all their sounds in a concert arena; may suit an ... This was the first Sigur Ros album I have bought - absolutely superb. I will definitely be buying their most recent album released a few weeks ago. Buy it, you will not be disappointed. Even if this is not your sort of music (it wasn't for me), give it a go, you might be surprised.
