Product Information

In 1818 Geneva, men built with clockwork parts live hidden away from society, cared for only by illegal mechanics called Shadow Boys. Two years ago, Shadow Boy Alasdair Finch's life shattered to bits. His brother, Oliver-dead. His sweetheart, Mary-gone. His chance to break free of Geneva-lost. Heartbroken and desperate, Alasdair does the unthinkable: he brings Oliver back from the dead. But putting back together a broken life is more difficult than mending bones and adding clockwork pieces. Oliver returns more monster than man, and Alasdair's horror further damages the already troubled relationship. Then comes the publication of Frankenstein, and the city intensifies its search for Shadow Boys, aiming to discover the real-life doctor and his monster. Alasdair finds refuge with his idol, the brilliant Dr. Geisler, who may offer him a way to escape the dangerous present and his guilt-ridden past, but at a horrible price only Oliver can pay. . . . Inspired by Mary Shelley's classic novel, Mackenzi Lee's dark yet redemptive debut is part fantasy, part Gothic horror, and ultimately the story of two brothers who might just keep each other human.

Reviews
Lee's accomplished first novel envisions an early-19th-century Geneva where clockwork technology is common yet controversial., Retellings of classics can be hit-or-miss undertakings, but in Lee's masterful prose, this macabre novel is charged with unmistakable signs of life., The old and new are woven together in language and theme creating a solid tale that explores what it means to be human. Part homage to a sci-fi original, part re-imagining, plenty of teen torment and trouble-an absorbing read., The adeptly paced and well-written story reveals the troubled relationship between two brothers and how their choices can either destroy or make them stronger. Full of action, mystery, and suspense, this reimagined classic will not disappoint readers of gothic, steampunk, and historical fiction. A satisfying tribute to Shelley's monster tale., A compelling and brave retelling of the first science fiction novel. A secret history, a love story, something both old and new., The old and new are woven together in language and theme creating a solid tale that explores what it means to be human. Came in a plastic mailer. No padding no protection. Surprisingly came in good shape almost no damage to the graphic novel. Minor ding if any on the front cover in the bottom middle of the book. Wish it was shipped better and was protected more from getting damaged. Could have easily been damaged worse.
